Rose Hill Ramble weekend

Rose Hill Rambles are held each spring and fall at Rose Hill Cemetery and require participants to cross uneven terrain at times and be able to walk and/or stand for about 1.5 hours. The next Rose Hill Ramble is scheduled for October 27, 2024. You can learn more and buy tickets here.

Rose Hill Cemetery is owned by the City of Macon-Bibb. Rose Hill Sexton Marvia Mitchell can be reached during regular business hours @ (478) 731-0300 or via email @ MMitchell@maconbibb.us.

The Friends of Rose Hill was a nonprofit organization that faithfully served the cemetery for many years. They led and carried on the tradition of the Rose Hill Rambles started by Calder Payne in the 1980s, secured funding to make repairs, installed interpretive signage, and advocated on behalf of the cemetery. In 2018, the Friends group dissolved. The remaining funds held by the group were put into an endowment at the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. Historic Macon Foundation is the steward of these funds, which are used for the cemetery's preservation.

Since the dissolution of the Friends of Rose Hill, a Rose Hill oriented nonprofit called Rose Hill Preservation and Restoration, Inc. has taken over advocacy and preservation work in the cemetery. You can learn more on their website: www.rosehillcemetery.org.

If you are on Facebook, you can find the main page for the nonprofit here. Their Facebook group, which is very active, can be found here.

Historic Macon continues the tradition of Rose Hill Rambles today, and has partnered with Rose Hill Preservation & Restoration to offer tours of Oak Ridge, which was historically the Black section of Rose Hill. We also support Rose Hill Preservation & Restoration in their efforts to maintain and improve this historic treasure.
