The Fringed Campion Society has been hosting invasive plant removal sessions around Macon for several years now. Most recently, they have been targeting invasive species in and around Macon’s many cemeteries. Their efforts at Oak Ridge, the historically Black section of Rose Hill Cemetery, uncovered enough burial sites for Historic Macon to do their first-ever tour of Oak Ridge with tour guides Kathleen O’Neal, YO Lattimore, and Brenda Williams.
Observed each year on the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King, Jr., Day is a federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King and improve their communities. We will be joining the Fringed Campion Society on January 20th for another Oak Ridge cleanup.
Don’t have your own yard tools? Don’t worry, we’re bringing ours! Historic Macon will be onsite with yard tools from our Tool Library. The Tool Library is typically a member-only benefit, but we are happy to loan out our tools and our time on MLK day. You can sign up here: https://forms.gle/7R2wiftdArFmu6rn9.
