Georgia BBQ Trails Salon

  • Historic Macon Foundation 950 Third St. Macon, GA, 31201 United States (map)

On April 27, Historic Macon is hosting a Sidney’s Salon featuring the Georgia BBQ Trails project. This project tells the story of Georgia’s history and culture through the unique lens of BBQ. The founders of Georgia BBQ Trails are Dr. Craig Pascoe and Dr. “Trae” Welborn, professors of Southern history at Georgia College & State University. Both are self-proclaimed BBQ devotees who believe that BBQ can be used to help tell the story of Georgia—its past, present, and future.

We will be screening a mini-documentary about Vanna Country BBQ, one of the first of two episodes in a planned series of mini-documentaries about the role and significance of women in Georgia’s barbecue traditions both past and the present. This film features BBQ pitmaster and restaurant owner Jenica Gilmore of Vanna Country BBQ in Vanna, Georgia.

Following the screening of this documentary, there will be a Q&A session, and the founders of the Georgia BBQ Trails project will discuss the oral history mini-documentary series of which this film is one part, as well as the broader work they are doing on their website.

The Salon will be held at Satterfield’s BBQ restaurant. We will start with a reception and refreshments at 5:30, and the presentation will begin at 6. Please register here, as space is limited for this event!
