Girl Power Workshop

  • Historic Macon Foundation 950 Third St. Macon, GA, 31201 United States (map)

We've had workshops on everything from window repair to urban gardening, so our upcoming session may look a little different. But we like it!

Inspired by projects like Girls Garage (https://bit.ly/3DDoQQ3) and Girls Who Build, our upcoming Girl Power Workshop will empower girls who don't always get opportunities to use tools and build things with their own two hands. Just 6.2% of construction trade workers are female, and only 15.9% of engineers and 23.2% of licensed architects are women. Research on mixed-gender environments shows that traditional power dynamics tend to be reproduced in these spaces, so we have tailored this workshop specifically for girls ages 10 and up.

Emily Allmond, our Lanier education coordinator, and Reed Purvis, our project manager, will lead the session. We will be building bee houses just in time for spring!

The free workshop will be held at "the shop," 909 Second St., at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 18. Space is limited, so register ASAP at bit.ly/girlpowerwrkshp. And please help us spread the word!
