2024 PRESERVATION AWARDS DRAW BIG AUDIENCE

We had a packed house Thursday evening for our annual meeting and 2024 Preservation Awards.

It was a chance to honor special projects and people who have done so much for Macon — and Historic Macon.

Tier2Technologies pulled out all the stops to make sure that we — and our 125 guests — felt right at home. Thank you! Everyone who attended was mesmerized by the beautiful office building.

We noshed on chicken wings, barbecue and more (even pork rinds!) from Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen. Boy was it good! And Manou Chakravorty and Kayla Yagi-Bacon, from the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, enchanted us with their music. What a night.

We’re proud of our winners! If you know any of them, congratulate them. They deserve a lot of credit. Thanks also to everyone who attended. As we always say, it’s our members, partners and volunteers who make us strong.

That’s not all we have in store to salute National Preservation Month. Here’s a quick look at our other activities:

  • Thursday, May 9, 5:30-7 p.m.: “A Look at Lamar.” Check the progress of HMF’s latest rehab project, at 169 Lamar St., off Vineville Avenue.

  • Thursday, May 16, 5-7 p.m.: Major Donor Party (invitation only) at the home of Stephen Reichert.

  • Thursday, May 23, 5:30-7 p.m. Sidney's Salon: "The Bottom Line: The Lasting Impact of Redlining in Macon" with Margaret Peth, MPA, 950 Third St.

  • Thursday, May 30, 6 p.m.: "Then and Now" walking tour, with Historic Macon and NewTown Macon.

SPRING FLEA MARKET WAS ROUSING SUCCESS!

More than 2,000 shoppers flocked to our spring Flea Market, picking up all kinds of treasures to take home.

Our volunteers checked them out and loaded them up, and we hope everyone will return for our fall sale in October.

Until then, we’ll be collecting donations from our kind contributors, and we’ll also be accepting dropoffs at our warehouse, located at 357 Oglethorpe St. (Call 478-742-5084 to do so.)

Thank you to everyone who made the sale so successful. And our volunteers appreciated the food from Nu-Way Weiners, Ingleside Village Pizza, Domino’s and Jimmy John’s.

As always, thank you for your support.

Our mission is to revitalize communities by preserving architecture and sharing history.

One of the benefits of your property residing in a National Register Historic District is preservation incentives. Historic tax credits allow citizens to undertake rehabilitation projects at a reasonable cost and Historic Macon is here to walk you through that process.
